How we compare

Our comparison criteria

Every comparison scores the same things, because they decide whether an uncensored AI is actually useful day to day:

  • Refusal behaviour. Does it answer sensitive but legal questions, or does it fall back on canned refusals and lectures?
  • Answer quality. A model that "complies" with a vague, watered-down answer isn't helping.
  • Developer access. Is there an API, is it OpenAI-compatible, and does it support streaming, tool calling and JSON mode?
  • Built-in tools. Web search, memory and function calling decide whether you can build real products on it.
  • Privacy and data handling. What gets stored, for how long, and whether it's used for training.
  • Cost and effort. Per-token pricing, free tiers and, for self-hosting, GPU and ops costs.

We try to be fair. Each page has a section on where the other tool is the better choice, because sometimes it is.

Competitor features and policies change often. This page reflects our understanding at the time of writing (last reviewed 2026-10-31). Check each provider's current terms before you decide.
